What types of life stress or changes might be addressed in therapy?
Let’s face it, life can be really difficult at times, including being faced with stressors and change. This can be anything from relationship difficulties, to the loss of a loved one, to health issues, to struggles at work, to any number of difficulties.
Potential impact of these experiences:
These types of experiences and stressors can impact us in significant ways. You might find that you are not sleeping the way that you used to, or your eating habits are different, or you are more irritable with the people in your life, or you are crying more, or you are drinking or using substances in ways that you haven’t in the past. Stressors and change impact everyone differently, so this list could go on and on. You know yourself and you know when something feels off.
And unfortunately, we have sometimes gotten the message that we need to do it alone. However, we are not meant to do it alone. You do not need to do it alone. We can work together to help you feel supported as you navigate life and help you do it in the healthiest way possible. When we are going through these types of life experiences it can be more difficult to cope. It is hard enough to manage the demands of everyday life, let alone additional stressors and change.
Counseling for life stressors and transition:
Given this, sometimes we need someone to support us in reconnecting with healthy ways of coping and sometimes we might need some new skills to navigate the situation. Sometimes this might be a few sessions to get you through whatever experience you are facing, and sometimes it’s for a longer period of time to help address things on a deeper level. We will work as a team to come up with a plan that feels right for you. I admire you even taking the first step of reaching out for help and welcome the opportunity to support you through this time.
